West Lothian
East of Scotland European Consortium (ESEC)

West Lothian is strategically located in the heart of central Scotland, with historic Linlithgow and its Royal Palace, and dynamic communities including Livingston one of Scotland’s fastest growing towns.

Over the last five years, West Lothian has been one of the fastest changing localities in the UK – both in terms of population and economy. The economic setbacks of the downturn in electronics and subsequent major job losses have been the catalyst for change in the area. Within a 2-year period, West Lothian lost nearly 10,000 jobs associated with closures of major companies including Motorola and NEC, and the subsequent knock-on effects.

At the heart of the industrial revolution, West Lothian has reinvented itself time and time again to respond to market and technological change and opportunities. Now, as an economy for the knowledge age, West Lothian is driven by indigenous business, enterprise and entrepreneurship.
